Corey Perry Apologizes for Behavior that Led to Blackhawks Release

Statement from Perry

CHICAGO - Former Blackhawks forward Corey Perry released a statement Thursday apologizing for the behavior that led to his release from the team. "I would like to sincerely apologize to the entire Chicago Blackhawks organization including ownership, management, coaches, teammates, staff, and fans," Perry said in a statement. "I am deeply sorry for the negative attention I have brought to the organization and the city of Chicago."

Perry, 37, was released by the Blackhawks on Tuesday after spending one season with the team. He had one goal and one assist in 22 games with the Blackhawks this season.

"I take full responsibility for my actions and I am committed to making amends," Perry said. "I hope that one day I will be able to earn back the trust of the Blackhawks organization and the fans of Chicago."

Blackhawks Statement

The Blackhawks released a statement Wednesday saying that they had terminated Perry's contract "for conduct detrimental to the team." The team did not provide any further details about Perry's behavior.

"We thank Corey for his contributions to the Blackhawks organization and wish him all the best in his future endeavors," the team said in a statement.

Reaction from Perry's Agent

Perry's agent, Allan Walsh, released a statement Thursday saying that he was "disappointed" with the Blackhawks' decision to terminate his client's contract.

"We believe that Corey's actions did not warrant such a severe punishment," Walsh said. "We are exploring all of our options at this time, including filing a grievance with the NHLPA."
