Four Individuals Injured In Separate Incidents

Multiple Shark Attacks Reported During July 4th Weekend

Four Individuals Injured in Separate Incidents

Several people were bitten by sharks in separate attacks at Texas and Florida beaches on the Fourth of July, authorities said.

South Padre Island, Texas

Three swimmers were attacked off South Padre Island, Texas, on Monday afternoon, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. One person suffered a severe bite to the leg, while the other two sustained minor injuries. The victims were treated at local hospitals and are expected to recover.

New Smyrna Beach, Florida

A 21-year-old man was bitten by a shark in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, on Monday evening, Volusia County Beach Safety said. The man was swimming about 50 yards offshore when he was bitten on the foot. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The attacks come as millions of Americans flock to beaches across the country to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday. Shark attacks are relatively rare, but they do occur. According to the Florida Museum of Natural History, there have been 834 shark attacks in Florida since 1882, resulting in 267 injuries and 11 fatalities.

If you are swimming in the ocean, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and take precautions to avoid shark attacks. Swim in designated areas, avoid swimming at dawn or dusk, and do not swim in murky water or near schools of fish. If you see a shark, stay calm and swim slowly away.
